Most calculators don't know what a LIRA is

American FIRE calculators are built around 401(k)s, IRAs, and Social Security. Canadian retirement math is fundamentally different — and using the wrong tool leads to real planning errors.

How much CPP + OAS can reduce your required portfolio

When you factor in CPP timing, OAS clawback thresholds, RRIF minimum withdrawal schedules, and LIRA conversion rules — the details matter enormously. FireCA has all of them built in, based on official Government of Canada and CRA rules.

Common questions

Can I save multiple scenarios or plans?
Yes. FireCA supports multiple named profiles — create a "Conservative" plan, an "Aggressive" plan, or a separate scenario for your spouse. Switch profiles instantly from the menu, copy an existing profile as a starting point, and all data stays local on your device. You can also share any scenario as a compressed URL without needing an account.
Is FireCA really free? What's the catch?
The web app at fireca.app is completely free with no paywalled features. We may show unobtrusive ads via Google AdSense to support development. The iOS and Android apps will have a small one-time cost when they launch. There's no subscription, no account required, and no data collection.
How is my data stored? Can FireCA see my financial information?
No. All data you enter is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage or on your device. Nothing is ever sent to our servers — we literally have no way to see your numbers. You can export everything as a JSON file at any time from the NW Tracker tab.
I'm not pursuing FIRE — is this app still useful for me?
Absolutely. FireCA is useful for anyone who wants to track their net worth over time, model Canadian retirement accounts, plan CPP and OAS timing, or understand how long their savings will last in retirement. "FIRE" is just one use case — the retirement planning and net worth tracking tools work for any Canadian planning for the future.
How accurate is the CPP and OAS math?
FireCA uses official Government of Canada timing factors for CPP (0.6% reduction per month before 65, 0.7% increase per month after 65) and OAS (0.6% increase per month deferred after 65, plus the 10% age-75 boost). OAS clawback uses the current CRA threshold of $93,454 for the 2026 period. RRIF minimum percentages use the 2026 CRA schedule. Always verify current figures with Service Canada and the CRA as rules change.
Can I use FireCA for couple / household planning?
Yes. Enable Spouse Mode in the Benefits tab to add a second set of CPP, OAS, and pension income, plus separate account balances. The retirement runway combines both income streams and can model different benefit start ages for each person.
What's the difference between Accumulating and FIRE'd mode?
Accumulating mode is for people still working toward financial independence. It calculates your FI number, tracks your net worth against your projection, and runs Monte Carlo simulations on your savings timeline. FIRE'd mode is for people at or near retirement — it simulates your year-by-year drawdown, models CPP/OAS timing, runs historical crash tests, and finds your safe spending rate.
