FireCA is more than a FIRE calculator. It's a complete financial planning tool — from your first net worth snapshot all the way through retirement drawdown.
Open FireCA Free →FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. The core idea is straightforward: save and invest aggressively until your portfolio generates enough passive income to cover your living expenses — permanently. At that point, work becomes optional, not mandatory.
The most common benchmark is the 4% rule — research suggests that withdrawing 4% of a diversified portfolio annually has historically lasted 30+ years. That means your FI Number is roughly 25× your annual expenses. For longer retirements, many people use 3–3.5%.
Most financial tools solve one problem. FireCA connects all three phases of your journey — because understanding where you are today is the foundation for planning where you're going.
Log net worth snapshots with per-account breakdowns. See contributions vs market gains and whether you're ahead of your plan.
Calculate your FI number and Coast FIRE target. Run Monte Carlo simulations to stress-test your timeline against thousands of market paths.
Model your retirement runway with CPP, OAS, LIF, and RRIF mechanics. Test against historical crashes and optimize your drawdown strategy.
The FIRE label attracts a passionate community, but the app is genuinely useful for any Canadian thinking seriously about their financial future.
Track net worth monthly, find your FI number, see how saving more buys retirement days.
Model Coast FI, stress-test with Monte Carlo, plan as a couple with combined benefits.
CPP timing, RRSP meltdown, OAS clawback, historical crash testing — the real retirement math.
American FIRE calculators are built around 401(k)s, IRAs, and Social Security. Canadian retirement math is fundamentally different — and using the wrong tool creates real planning errors that can cost you years of unnecessary work.
FireCA has all of this built in, based on official Government of Canada and CRA rules:
Switch between Accumulating and FIRE'd mode depending on where you are. Your account balances and settings carry through both.
Calculate FI number and Coast FI target. Choose Perpetual FI or Die with Zero drawdown plan. Track net worth vs projection. Run Monte Carlo simulations. Model what-if scenarios. Stress-test assumptions with the sensitivity heatmap. Mortgage payoff planning with automatic spending offset.
Year-by-year drawdown with LIF, RRIF, CPP, OAS. CPP timing breakeven analysis. RRSP meltdown planning. Historical crash survival testing. Drawdown order optimization for tax efficiency. Real Spending mode with inflation rate control.
Every feature is free on the web. The mobile app brings it to your phone.
All financial data you enter is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage or on your device. Nothing is ever transmitted to our servers. We built it this way intentionally — your retirement numbers are nobody's business but yours.
You can export everything as a JSON file at any time and import it back on any device. No account, no login, no sync.
FireCA was built out of frustration with US-centric financial tools that
had no idea what a LIRA was, let alone how OAS clawback interacts with
RRIF minimums. The goal was to build something precise enough to actually
trust for real decisions — not just a rough back-of-napkin estimate.
It's a labour of love, updated regularly, and completely free on the web.
iOS and Android apps are in development. If you have feedback or found a bug,

FireCA is an educational tool for personal financial planning. It provides estimates based on your inputs and is not professional financial advice. Government benefit amounts, tax rules, and contribution limits change — always verify current figures with the CRA and Service Canada. Consult a qualified financial advisor before making major retirement or investment decisions. The historical scenarios and Monte Carlo results are illustrative models, not guarantees of future performance.
